Grupo de Sistemas Inteligentes at Universidad Europea de Madrid (GSI-UEM) focuses his activity in research areas specially related with this particular proposal, including fields as textual content analysis, information retrieval, multilingual information access, machine learning, content personalization, ontologies and interaction on mobile devices. It is important to highlight the GSI-UEM experience in the area of access and management of medical information and content security. The group has 16 researchers with a significant interdisciplinary component, teachers participating in this proposal come from Department of Information Systems, Computer Architecture, Electronics and Communications, and Medical Specialties. The principal investigator of the group, Manuel de Buenaga, and most members have participated in the MAVIR-CM programme.

GSI-UEM has made numerous presentations at national and international conferences and publications indexed in JCR on subjects related to this proposal such as ACM Transactions on Information Systems, Information Processing and Management, Medical & Biological Engineering, Technovation and Computers and the Humanities. Currently the group is supervising 5 doctoral dissertations related to the analysis and access to information. The group has participated in recent years in various R&D and technology transfer projects mainly related to the above mentioned fields, participating in consortia with software development companies as Gesfor, SIP, iSOCO, Vodafone, Bitext and Answer Tech, customers or end users such as AFP, the newspaper ABC, Hospital de Fuenlabrada, and international institutions such as Istituto di Linguistica Computazionale (Italy) and University of Sheffield (United Kingdom).

Funding for these projects and consortia have been provided from different R&D programs of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Industry, Madrid Community Government and the European Commission. The most significant and recent projects related to the lines of this proposal are: ISSE: Semantic Interoperability for Electronic Health (FIT-350300-2007-75); SINAMED: Design and Integration Techniques for Automatic Text Summarization and Categorization for Bilingual Information Access in the Biomedical Domain (TIN-2005-08998-C02-01); ISIS: Intelligent System for Integrated Access to Patient Health Record Information and Related Medical Documentation (FIT-070000-2003-39); MOBIHELP: Telematics Aid System for Chronic and Risk Patients (contract Answer Tech, 2007), FISMAN: Prospective Analysis of Technologies Based SMS Spam Filtering Content (contract with Vodafone, 2006); TEFILA: Text Filtering Techniques based on Language Engineering, Machine Learning and Agents (FIT-070000-2003-29) and POESIA: Public Open-Source Environment for a Safer Internet (SIAP EC 2117/27572).
