Grupo de Algoritmia aplicada a la Visión Artificial y Biometría is a multidisciplinary research group formed in 2002 by lecturers and researchers from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. It includes different research lines in the field of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. Computer Vision is one of the most important lines integrating the most researchers of the group. This line is centred on developing advanced techniques of image processing, including image segmentation methods, fuzzy image processing, visual object tracking in video, 3D vision and document analysis.

Most of the works developed by these professors propose software/hardware optimization methods in the computer vision and image processing fields. This particular emphasis gives to the applicant group a suitable profile in order to solve the suggested tasks described by this document in the field of multimedia information retrieval, such as content-based multimedia information retrieval, high performance image processing, advanced image segmentation, feature extraction and classification by means of soft-computing techniques.

This team is working together since 2001. They have participated as researchers in several grants (1 European funded grant, 4 Spanish grants, 2 regional grants and another 2 university internal funded grants). Moreover, they have been leading 4 regional funded research grants (Comunidad de Madrid) in 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09. Attending to research publications, in the last 5 years the petitioner team has published 12 journal papers (indexed by JCR), and more than 15 book chapters and 50 conference works (peer reviewed).
